Woven in France
The "Aristoloches" or "large leaves" tapestries were in fashion in the middle of the XVI century. They were mostly woven in the highly praised mills of Audernarde, Frammont and Enghien in the Flanders. This particular one depicts tobacco leaves, which Columbus had brought back from his voyage and soon to be widely used in Europe.
